There is no other time of the year where there is such a variety of food. Chances are that you have a friend, family member or loved one that has been cooking the same dish for decades. Maybe that recipe has been handed down from generation to generation. With that much of a heritage, it has to be good! It could be a recipe for Christmas cookies, casseroles, cakes or pies.

I just asked my mother for her recipe for pie crust. I always loved her crusts because they almost resembled short bread. They were crunchy with a touch of sweetness. I made a pumpkin pie for the first time. When I tasted the dough, it tasted just like hers. It brought back a flood of fond memories of how much she used to bake when I was little. My mother is not a fan of pumpkin pie but she asked me to break off a piece of the crust for her to taste. She declared it was quite good.

It occurred to me that I didn’t have any of my mother’s recipes. She is now 92 soon to be 93 in January! She is a fabulous cook. Writing this I realized if I don’t collect them, her dishes will be lost.  I better get busy.

So this Christmas, ask someone you admire for one of their signature recipes. You’ll not only add to your collection, but you’ll be making someone be remembered when you give them credit for the wonderful dish.
