The Psalmist says, Be still and know that I am God. Being still is not easy. The world calls us to be busy. God calls us to be still. The world calls us to be anxious. God calls us to be at peace.

As Christians we are familiar with prayer, but meditation has not been a spiritual practice for many. In prayer we are doing all of the talking! Meditation allows us to listen to God.

Meditation and Scripture

Meditation in Scripture is first mentioned in Genesis 24:63, And Isaac went out to meditate in the field. Psalms is full of references to meditation. The first Psalm starts with the example of a righteous person. In verse two it says: But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. The corresponding Scripture that sets the example that Christians should show to others is in 1 Timothy chapter 4:11-15. These verses say: These things command and teach. Be an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Meditate upon these things.

Set Aside Time to Be with and Listen to God

Like Isaac, meditation requires stepping away from life’s demands. Everyone is time poor. There doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day. You may think that meditation is “doing nothing,” that being still is doing nothing and that you don’t have time to do nothing! Well, I used to think that too. But investing just 9 to 15 minutes a day with the Be Still Meditation will spill into all areas of your life. You will become more patient, more compassionate, and feel more peace. You will become less anxious and overwhelmed.

The greatest benefit by learning to be still is that you will develop a more intimate relationship with God. You spend time with those you love. You give them your attention. God wants our attention too! God speaks to us in stillness.

All of these benefits of becoming more compassionate, patient, and peaceful means that you will be becoming all that God created you to be.

Why Use a Guided Meditation?

Quieting the mind is not easy. A guided meditation is the fastest way to clear the mind of cluttered, anxious thoughts to teach you how to be still. Having music and being guided helps to focus on the present moment and create an experience to leave the world and its stressful demands behind.

A guided meditation provides structure and a time frame to exercise this discipline. Just like physical exercise builds muscle or endurance, meditation builds spiritual muscle in greater peace, clarity and direction as you experience God’s peaceful, loving presence.

Your Purpose is to Become All God Created You to Be

Your purpose is to become all that God created you to be. You can’t do that if you are anxious, stressed, overwhelmed and caught up in daily survival. What are your gifts? How are you serving the world? Are you becoming all God created you to be?

Becoming all God created you to be means having a clear mind, a clear heart and being able to listen. It means listening to your spirit and God’s Spirit within you that will lead you and guide you.

It all starts with being still.
