Music can have a profound impact on our lives. We can hear a certain song and can immediately be transported back to a particular time in our lives. It’s amazing to me how many words of a song I will remember when I haven’t heard it in years.
There’s nothing more instant to snap you out of a bah hum bug mood than to listen to some upbeat Christmas music. There is so much variety to choose from. Our Chancel Choir is singing a variety of Christmas favorites with a full orchestra on December 12. See First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, Missouri for details.
Then there’s classic Christmas carols like Joy to the World, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, and Away in a Manger. And popular music like White Christmas. There are lots of Christmas music CD’s to choose from.
Have you ever thought about supporting a local artist? There are some terrific musicians out there. Steve Schenkel is the staff guitarist for our St. Louis Symphony, Fox Theatre and Municipal Opera Orchestras as well as professor of music, media and religion at Webster University. He’s created a wonderful Christmas CD with a jazz flavor called A Midnight Clear. Steve has composed and performed countless film scores including my guided meditation CD, “Be Still and Know that I am God.†Listen to exurbs of Steve’s CD and to purchase.
So, get into the Christmas spirit by listening to some timeless Christmas music.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulder. And he will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.†– Isaiah 9:6
