There’s been a lot of buzz for decades about The Law of Attraction. Classes, books, workshops, even a movie was made to teach people how to harness this law. The Law of Attraction states that what you put your attention on you can manifest into being. By asking and believing you are supposed to receive. The outcome can be good or bad, by the way, depending what you truly believe consciously and unconsciously. But how do you use The Law of Attraction in the Christian faith? (Make sure you also read Part 2 about the two caveats needed.)
What the Bible Says about The Law of Attraction
Hmmm, where I have heard those words before? Asking, believing and receiving are words found in a book published way before the popular book, The Secret, was published that defines The Law of Attraction. Matthew chapter seven and verses seven and eight come to mind:
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
The Law of Attraction works as sure as another law, the Law of Gravity. Don’t go stepping off a ladder or from a high place because you will hit the ground. God created all of the laws of the universe.
I have found that whenever I have put my attention on something, especially if I am deeply emotional about it, I attract what I am thinking about into my life. Let me share a funny, true story of how The Law of Attraction can work. This law works not only in the big things in our lives, but in the little things too.
A True Story of Manifesting
When I was growing up I struggled with math. Well, who am I kidding? I still struggle with math. I wanted to be an artist but I needed to take Algebra and Geometry as prerequisite subjects. In my first semester I received an F in Algebra. I was devastated. I had never received an F in any subject before.
A sweet couple called Mr. and Mrs. Valiant helped oversee our youth group at church. They didn’t live very far from me and used to pick me up and take me to church activities. Mr. Valiant was an engineer and volunteered to tutor me in math. With his help, I got an A in my second semester, so I got a C grade overall in the course.
I had since moved away and the church I attended had moved also. To give this some context, we’re talking a time span of forty years ago. One day I was thinking about the Valiants and I was sad because I never had the opportunity to tell him or them, “Thank you.” They had been my chauffeurs, counselors through difficult times, tutors and an overall stable force in my life when my home life was anything but stable.
Every year there is a dinner and bazaar at a Lutheran Church by my mother’s house. They specialize in cabbage rolls, which we love. This year we decided to take the food back home and before we did, we were going to visit the bazaar which we had never done. Well, we totally forgot about the bazaar because we had gotten so hungry!
After we had eaten we decided to go back up to the church to check out the bazaar. As soon as we walked in the door, I spotted a gentleman that looked very familiar but I couldn’t put a name with his face. I found myself calling out to him, “Excuse me, did you attend the Lindell Boulevard Bible Church?” He said, “Yes, my name is Art Valiant.” Then up walked his wife, Mary Ann! I was a teenager the last time I had seen them.
I told them that I had been thinking about them just the day before and how sad I was that I had never had an opportunity to say, “Thank you.” Now I had the opportunity to not only thank them for the tutoring but for everything!
They didn’t live any where near the church. For us to meet, after leaving and coming back, and catching them at just the precise moment was definitely a God thing. Art and Mary Ann’s eyes sparkled as we reconnected. Mary Ann kept saying over and over again, “It’s a God thing! It’s a God thing!”
When we are real with God and when our intentions and emotions are strong and pure, I believe that God answers, just like he made this meeting happen. While I didn’t specifically ask God to manifest the Valiants, I did express a genuine desire for something that was good.
There are two caveats with this asking. We’ll look at those in Part 2 of The Law of Attraction and the Christian Faith.

March 24, 2020 2:38 pmHi Connie,
I don’t know your entire situation, but if you are being harassed for four years in your current job, it seems like only common sense that you would like to look for a better job in a better environment. The problem in that, though, is that people are people and who knows if a new job would not involve unkind people too. You are the only one that can answer if the anger and frustration is something you are putting out that is attracting it back. If you are truly being kind and cooperative with the people you work with, then the problem is with the people. Hope that makes sense. Look at your own actions and what you know to be true. Ask God for discernment.
Peace to you,
Jackie

March 24, 2020 1:18 pmIf l may ask some questions about law of attraction. I have been listening to a pastor l really like and sent an email to pray for a new job. His response was be grateful for the job you have or you will just attract another job you hate. This is confusing because it seems like l have to do something like feel right. I have also been subjected to harassment by some people and l have been trying to be forgiving. But this has gone on for 4 yrs now. I even had to file an ex parte order. So if l feel frustrated and sometimes angry am l just bringing it back on myself?

January 13, 2019 12:22 pmHi Lina,
Thank you for your comment, concern and sharing your experience. Well, the devil comes in many disguises, as you stated. He is also called the great deceiver. I would imagine that Satan wants to deceive people into thinking that meditating on God’s word, or meditating on God is a bad, New Age thing. The word meditate is found as early as Genesis, Chapter 24, verse 63. “And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at eventide.” And Psalm 1:1-2 states: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” The type of meditation I teach and practice is strictly meditating on God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit along with scripture. I know that there are other forms of meditation, but I see no other reason for meditation other than to meditate in the presence of God and on God’s peaceful, loving presence. Meditation has transformed my life. That’s why I’m so passionate about it. Meditation has caused me to experience, “the peace of Christ which surpasses any understanding.” Thank you again for expressing your experience and thoughts.
Peace to you,
Jackie

January 3, 2019 11:29 amPlease be very careful when using “guided meditation”. As an ex-new ager who read Wayne Dyer books, The Secret, practiced the law of attraction and thought that Buddhism was a way to God ( which it’s not) it led me astray from God.The devil comes in many disguises and this was one of them. I practiced mindfulness and meditation but what I was doing was opening a door to the devil. How do you know if it’s the real Jesus your opening up to?? Please, I urge you not to mix new age practices. It’s down right dangerous. There is only ONE way to God. It is through His son Jesus Christ.
I came across your website because yesterday I was concerned about an issue. I went to Walmart looking for something and was led down the Christmas clearance isle. I looked down and saw a box of Xmas cards that read” Be still and know that I am God”.it was the answer to my concern. God heard me. But as I got home I googled it and landed here. As Im exploring your website and started reading your post about guided meditations I couldn’t help but respond. I’m not here be accident.
