Take Your Spirituality to Work Day and Every Day

There’s take your daughter to work day, even take your dog to work day. I suggest a take your spirituality to work day…. or going a step further…. taking your spirituality into all that you do.

We tend to live our lives in compartments based on the different roles that we fill. We step into compartment mode of parent, then switch to spouse, employee, manager or CEO. If you attend church or spend a devotional “time” during the day, that time involved in both instances is often left behind as we play our roles in these various compartments.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “My job is sucking the life out of me.”

I used to be a depleted soul. I wish I had brought that spirituality to work with me.

We spend the vast majority of our time working. That world should be life giving and not life sucking.

We are made up of mind, body and spirit. A happy, whole human being is an integrated human being. The soul is our true essence. It’s the spiritual part of us. If we are not nurturing our minds, bodies and souls and we leave this essence at home, how can we be happy, fulfilled and effective?

The fruits of the Spirit have been described as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. I don’t know about you, but I believe that the work place and the world could use a lot more of these attributes!

Rather than spending a spiritual “time,” or leaving your spirituality behind, incorporate spirituality into your way of life. By doing so, you’ll have greater peace, focus, happiness and clarity as you discover this integrated way to be.

If you are saying that your job is “sucking the life out of me,” bring your spirituality to work and to all you do. You’ll find this spiritually way to be will nourish your soul and bring new life within.

I believe that there is a lot of spiritual work to be done in the workplace. Changing a business culture is difficult. However, each of us can be change agents. Jesus didn’t have many disciples, but look at the power of change that resulted by the actions of one person at a time! I’m not sure how this change can happen, but I want to be a person involved. If you are on LinkedIn and haven’t connected with me, I’d love for you to do so.
