What does it mean to be holy for I am holy? 1 Peter 1:15-16 says: He who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; for it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

Wholly and Holy

“I’ve got socks older than you,” is a movie quote from Malone. I’ve got a pair of blue jean shorts older than my son who is thirty-one. I purchased them the summer I found out that I was pregnant.

They are frayed and holey and I can’t part with them. The holes came from a mission trip to Guatemala. Without knowing, I had sat on some lime powder. When I stood up, the holes were there. I only wear the shorts to clean around the house. But every time I wear them, I think of that beautiful trip and the summer I would find out that I would be a mom.

Michael Jordan, one of the greatest basketball players of all time, wore his North Carolina practice shorts under his NBA uniform for his entire career because he felt they brought him luck after leading the Tar Heels to a national championship in 1982.

Our shorts were holy, or sacred to us, they were set apart from all the other shorts we had.

Perhaps you have an article of clothing like this too?

To Be Holy is to Set Yourself Apart

One of my favorite theologians, Frederick Buechner, says, “God’s holiness is his Goodness. To speak of anything else as holy is to say that it has something of God’s mark upon it. Times, places, things, and people can all be holy, and when they are, they are usually not hard to recognize.”

But to be holy, you first need to believe that you are whole. Too often we are told that we are flawed or broken.

A Holy Note

As you go about your day, focus on being whole and holy. I’ll end this holy post with the word Holy from the daily devotional: God Notes – Daily Doses of Divine Encouragement

HOLY

It is written: be holy because I am holy.

You are My child.

I have given you My Holy Spirit. Therefore, be:

Holy in your relationships,

Holy in your love,

Holy in all that you do.

You are My Beloved.

My holy mountain is a place full of peace and spectacular views.

Stay close to Me holy one, and I will help you see all that I see for you.
