Whenever doubts, fears and challenges arise, this singular event has helped me to keep on keeping on. It’s why I know that God is real, because that’s the day that God showed up.
God is the God of Surprises
The date was August 30, 2003. I will always remember that date because that’s when my life changed forever, in an instant.
God is the God of surprises. That’s because God comes to us when we least expect it. Who… Continue reading
The world wants to steal your peace. Your mind wants to steal your peace. Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.” John 14:27
The world and your mind will steal your peace by what you focus on. Focus on the media bombarding you with images and messages of fear… Continue reading
Letting go is scary. Letting go means letting go of control. No one wants to be out of control. But you can’t control everything. You can’t control outcomes. You have to let it go.
Letting go means trusting God. The outcome is in God’s hands. God knows every situation and what is on every person’s heart. The sooner you let go and let God handle a challenge or problems, the sooner you will feel lighter.
My friend Jill Farmer… Continue reading
Loneliness is a feeling that can overwhelm us whether we live in a remote area or in a crowded city. Sadly, loneliness can exist in relationships with two people living under the same roof. There can be a gulf of hurt, anger and resentment so wide that feelings of loneliness and isolation fill that gulf.
If you are feeling alone, know that you are not alone. God created us to have a relationship with us.
The disciples felt… Continue reading
Many people that subscribe to my email list called The Guided Life will reach out and share with me or ask for prayer. I hold readers in my prayers whether it’s through that list, a meditation purchase, or even visitors to this site. That’s because most people are searching for peace, encouragement, or guidance. This Prayer for Mothers is written as if I would be praying it with you, because I am. : )
Most Gracious and… Continue reading
Two of my favorite Bible verses are Psalm 121:3 & 4 – He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. Stated simply, God’s door is always open.
If you’ve never stopped to think how important you are to God, think about this. We have access to God, the Creator of the Universe, 24-7. In business terms, let’s just say that God is the CEO of everything.
Have you tried… Continue reading
There is a book that a friend gave to my husband years ago. When we were clearing out some clutter I came across this book. It’s a daily devotional guide written by “two listeners” as God speaks to them. The book is God Calling. I have reread this book for the last three years because I believe it contains simple but powerful wisdom.
One of the day’s writings is called – Rule the World. It has to do with the subject of prayer. Since praying is so easy to do, we may think that it’s such a little thing. After reading this writing, prayer is one of the greatest powers that we possess.
There is the saying, “strength in numbers.” The Bible says in Matthew 18:30, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” I believe that we can gather as the children of God, even if we aren’t physically together. We can combine our strength to make our requests known.
A Prayer for Guidance
I was doing some spring cleaning the other day in my office when I came across a yellow piece of paper. It was folded neatly into four parts. On the outside were hand written words in pencil:
A prayer for Jackie
I suggest you say this prayer, or at least, touch this piece of paper anytime you are going to talk about “the issue” in the next days.
I opened up the piece of… Continue reading
Each December I let the hustle and bustle of the holiday season steal my joy. Not this year! This year I am celebrating Christmas with a new idea every day.
Don’t underestimate the power of prayer. When I talk about prayer, I mean talking to God. I am not talking about saying The Lord’s Prayer or a standard, memorized prayer. I have to confess that I have taken my definition of prayer for granted. My definition of prayer is talking to God – just as I am talking to you through the words on this page and through my video on the home page. I have come to understand that “my” definition is not the same as others. Here’s a story to explain what I mean.
In seeking a life guided by God, I have experienced the most profound understanding of God’s love for me after venting raw emotions. Whether you are experiencing great frustration, grief or anger, when you express these feelings to God, God seems to listen and answer right away. My pastor always tells me, “Get angry at God. He can take it.” This was my experience from late summer going into the fall.
I had to have some surgery done on an… Continue reading
