The top three goals or resolutions that people set each year are:
- Lose weight
- Get organized
- Live life to the fullest
These are worthy goals that will certainly improve your quality of life. So, why do the majority of people fail each year to accomplish these resolutions?
If you have struggled with your weight, it’s not easy to change habits. Eating less and exercising more seems simple enough, but why you overeat, eat unhealthy food and don’t exercise enough can be a deep-seated emotional issue. This makes the change difficult. (I struggled with weight for most of my life. You can check out the first two chapters of my book where I share my story called The Freedom to Eat – 10 Secrets for Lasting Weight Loss and Inner Peace.)
If clutter is all around you, getting organized will be overwhelming.
Everyone wants to live life to the fullest. But if extra weight, clutter, the stressors of life as in your job, family, bills, money concerns, etc., are gobbling up your joy, it’s not easy to stay motivated to live life to the fullest.
It’s easy to adopt an all or nothing attitude. Making sweeping changes is too much!
There is a solution – Meditation
Meditation will help you eliminate that feeling of overwhelm and allow you to think more clearly. A mind full of cluttered thoughts can’t help you see things clearly to focus on your goals.
How Meditation Helps You Lose Weight
Meditation helps you to listen. That means listening to your body. Your body tells you when it’s hungry, when it’s full, and when it’s thirsty. You’ve just stopped listening.
I know, because I’ve lost over 500 pounds. The problem was, it was the same 30. :) Meditation quiets the critical thoughts in your head. Those thoughts drive you to the refrigerator or pantry. Meditation allows you to become aware of your actions instead of being unconscious with your eating.
You’ll stop “thinking” about food and losing weight and actually start losing weight. (Here are two resources for you.)
Meditation Helps you Get Organized
When your mind is a mess, your surroundings can be too. Meditation allows you to clear the crowded, negative thoughts and create space to receive peace. As a result, you will want this peaceful feeling to be reflected in your surroundings.
Meditation Helps you Live Life to the Fullest
When you invest a small period of time, 10-20 minutes every day or 3-5 days a week in meditation, you spend time in the present moment.
Peace comes when you focus on the present moment. You are not thinking about the past or worrying about the future.
Ultimately, this time is a time of renewal and to just be in God’s presence. The Psalmist says, “Be still and know that I am God.” When you still your racing thoughts, when you take this small amount of time to be still, it will recharge your mind, body, and soul.
Meditation will help you to let go of your all or nothing attitude. You will be able to focus on your goals.
Losing weight and getting organized will free you to put your entire focus on living life to the fullest. When you can do that, that’s when life gets exciting! Practicing meditation will help you to be still, let go and accomplish those goals.
Need help learning to be still and letting go? These meditations can help.
