Society conditions us to seek and achieve significant and spectacular goals. Winning a major award, taking a dream vacation, fulfilling a grand bucket list, all translate to significance.
But there are far more insignificant things that happen in our everyday lives. When we are attentive, the insignificant things can take on much greater meaning.

My desk faces our back yard. There is a stone sitting wall under a tree. On a regular basis we have cardinals,… Continue reading
May this post help you realize why you don’t want to lose your sense of wonder. A sense of wonder comes easily for children. They haven’t been “de-sensitized” by years of day-to-day living, also known as monotony. They don’t take the world and their surroundings for granted.
I’ll never forget the look on my baby’s face when a gentle spring breeze brushed against his cheeks for the first time. His eyes grew wide then closed as he felt the wonder… Continue reading

1) Live from your Values
Kushner’s definition of stress is: “Stress (which can affect us physically) may be as much a question of a compromise of values… Continue reading
If you are yearning for a simple, joy-filled life, as opposed to a complicated, over-committed, stress-filled life, these six simple steps will help you. The steps are in the form of an acronym: S.I.M.P.L.E
S – Stop, Step One
If your life is out of control, if you are over committed, just stop. Catch your breath and do an inventory of your commitments.
Do you really have to serve on those four committees?
Do your children need to be on… Continue reading
What is spiritual direction and what is a spiritual director? I had never heard the term spiritual director or spiritual direction until 2009 . My pastor friend Karen and I share the same philosophy. If we hear about something multiple times in a week, whether it’s a recommended book, movie or advice, that we need to pay attention. Well, this spiritual direction and spiritual director topic popped up everywhere!
That included a trip to see dear friends in Wisconsin.… Continue reading
